Arm & Leg Pain

Do you find it painful to play racquet sports?

Does your leg feel like a toothache when you jog or run?

Many people experience pain in the limbs of their body, which is generally the result of tight muscles or muscle trigger points. One of the problems we deal with a lot is pain in the front of the shoulder that goes down the arm and into the forearm. When we examine the person we usually find muscle trigger points in the rotator cuff and a restriction in range of motion of the arm. We tend to see this in professionals who work in an industry which requires the constant use of a computer mouse. Because of the way a mouse is worked with, the rotator cuff becomes chronically tight and then the pain begins. This is just an example and not the case for everyone, but if this sounds like you and you are using a mouse a lot and it happens to be elevated (on the top of a desk rather than on a keyboard drawer) there is a good chance this is the problem.

Another problem we see a lot of is tennis or golfers elbow. These conditions almost always resolve quickly and easily using trigger point therapy. What is even more important is that we can show you the stretches which can keep your muscles loose and not allow the pain to return.

Pain in the leg many times comes from the muscles in the hip. We will check the range of motion of the hip and then examine the surrounding tissue for trigger points and tight muscles. Trigger points in the hip can refer pain all the way down the side of the leg into the ankle or down the back of the thigh and into the upper portion of the calf, thus mimicking the pain of sciatica.

If you are carrying a wallet in your back pocket (mostly men do this), please be aware that the compression of tissue from the wallet can cause problems in the muscle by decreasing circulation. We strongly suggest moving your wallet from your back pocket to the front and keeping it there. You may have to purchase a front pocket wallet, but it will be well worth the investment!
